RealNetworks yesterday announced a deal with FoxSports.com to broadcast Big 12 college football games to subscribers of the RealOne SuperPass service. The games will not be aired on regular television, giving fans a chance to see games they normally wouldn't be able to without buying a ticket. The first game to be aired is the August 31 matchup of Nebraska and Troy State.
This is an excellent use of a subscription service. More college sports conferences should ink deals like this so alumni around the country have a chance to see their favorite teams play. What Northeastern University alum wouldn't want to be able to watch the exciting Huskies vs. Lock Haven matchup via the Web?
With the continued proliferation of broadband, people are increasingly turning to the PC as a source of entertainment. Broadcasting sports online is a natural.
