Kanguru Solutions today announced a 2G-byte Flash storage drive that connects via USB 2.0. The KanguruMicroDrive includes an embedded encryption program (KanguruGuard) that lets users create a password protected area of their drive. In addition, the software lets users compress their data, which in essence can double or triple the drive’s capacity.
The devices measures 3 inches in length and weighs only 21 grams, Kanguru said. Storage capacity starts at $39.95 for 32M bytes and goes up to the 2G-byte format. The 2G-byte version costs $1,299.95. The drive can be ordered here.
The encryption and compression features use two separate folders – Secret and Zip. The Secret folder encrypts and compresses the data, and requires a password for access. The Zip folder just compresses the data. The drive includes 32-bit encryption, but DES, 3DES and Blowfish formats are available upon request, Kanguru said.
