Do a search on Yahoo today and the results come from its own search engine, rather than Google.
Diego Doval finds it a big improvement:
"I can immediately tell that the results it provides are very good. Comparisons with Google's results for similar keywords show similar (though a bit slower) speeds, less obsession with trackbacks and such, and a good mix of weblog and non-weblog results."
Phil Ringnalda also compares Google and Yahoo; his initial impression is that Yahoo gives higher weights to general pages than specific ones, but says he'd be worried about the way that paid entries are so seamlessly integrated into Yahoo's results:
"No matter how good Yahoo!'s search technology is, you're never going to know who got there by being a good result for your search, and who got there by buying their way in, in any one of a number of ways that someone can pay to be included."
Bret Fausett writes: "A single search definitively establishes that Yahoo! is now superior to Google."
Dave Winer finds the interface confusing (the results page looks nothing like the search page, for example), but says both Yahoo and Google are awful companies (well, he uses language a bit stronger than that).
