More fun with MySQL

Network World Fusion 02/24/03

As noted last week, we're hoping to move our Moveable Type-based Weblogs to a MySQL backend.

Next up: Connecting the new forum software we've been installing with MySQL.

The forum software actually works with Oracle, which we'd prefer, if only because we have two beefy Oracle database servers. But there seems to be some serious lag time when you click on anything that requires any database action (like, say, calling up a posting). If the lag disappears when I switch the database over to MySQL, well, then we'll at least know we need to look at the Perl modules that let the forum communicate with the Oracle database.
