While it's true that Google launched Knol to a great deal of fanfare back in July, the "Wikipedia killer" has quickly faded from view since then. Google's push to add public policy debates could help create more traffic to the site, and that's something that's very much needed--since Knol's "unusually high" search results on Google need to be explained somehow.
Admittedly, the evidence is scant, and Google denies tweaking Knol's performance on its search engine. But the nascent site's success is interesting. Check out Google Blogoscoped's examination of the issue.
