Really, all the feeds and speeds in the world don't make for a secure, compliant or productive network. All this fixation with speed is just more seduction and subterfuge from the manufacturer's.
Also, remember. Most organizations only require modest Internet pipes. The backbone speeds stuff is crazy especially since most IT managers don't even have a freaking clue as to what's going on. "We need more bandwidth! Why? We used up what we had. How? Ah....?"
Sure, there are performance requirements to be met but the key point is MOST people don't have a clue about quality or business purposes. CONSUME, CONSUME, CONSUME is all we get. Latency is moot when the businesses needs aren't being met in the first place. Investing in expensive high-performance equipment only makes it seem like things are progressing when in fact it may only be making the problems worse.

goodbye Cisco
The EX4200 is the beginning of the end of Cisco's dominance in the switching space. It is about time that we get a credible 2nd player in this space. Now that one of the premiere routing and security players has a switch we have real alternative to Cisco.

Another time-to-market piece of crap from Juniper. That review was hilarious. I mean, how many deficiencies can one product have?? If you're serious about your business you will not put something of this nature into your network.

Juniper switch faster than Cisco switch. But...
I am pleased to see that Cisco is now challenged. This promises a new great battle to the benefits of all customers.
I still wonder how many companies will play speed against strategy. Do just I buy switches and routers or do I buy a complete strategy and the pieces sold in the package?

What complete strategy? The only thing Cisco switches have in common is the brand name. What does a Cisco "package" do for me that I can't get with other vendors products. This is Cisco's way to try and lock you in because no single Cisco product is best in class.
Homogeous or Heterogenous
With Juniper's switching portfolio, they have complete solution offering. At the same time , people should look at best of the products from each vendor rather than locking themselves with x vendors marketing & proprietary things. No one wants them to be driven by OEM.
I really think , Juniper will be the best alternative with complete offering.

Listen, Juniper products ain't cheap. But if I can get a Cisco quality switch for far less from Juniper, that gets me interested.

Recently our campus purchased a Juniper MX960, SSG550, NMS, STRM 2500, and about 50 EX switches. Our out of box experience is very pleasing. No buyers remorse here. We cut the tape, stacked 10 EX4200s with supplied cables, upgraded them and were putting them back in the box for configs and deployment in 7 minutes. We are having some Firefox and Antivirus issues with the SSL/VPN but our VAR is working those issues with us in a quick and informed pace.
Another player on the pitch
Good to see another solid player in the switch industry with what seems to be a solid product. Cisco, Foundry, Extreme, Force10, Juniper, HP, and the other forgotten children are really pushing technology to the next level. Pricing in this economy is still the key though. Buying Preowned gear has save a lot of money for us. Guess I will have to wait for Juniper gear then...
