Cisco continued to dominate the global wireless LAN gear market in 2007, securing the No. 1 position in both the enterprise and service provider sectors, with WLAN revenue topping $200
million each quarter. But there is no clear No. 2 as Aruba and Motorola jostle for that position, according to the latest numbers from Infonetics Research. Trapeze Networks "led the rest of the chasers," says Infonetics. Included in Infonetics' calculations are independent and dependent access points and WLAN switches and controllers, which hit $1.9 billion in 2007, up 20% from 2006. Sales of enterprise single mode W-iFi phones also jumped, up 61% in 2007, as adoption of wireless VoIP continued to penetrate the enterprise market, the report shows.
Is Cisco the No. 1 in revenue because its gear is pricier or because its gear is far superior than rival products?
