Technology in Education
Interesting thoughts on the role of technology in education. I fell technology has an important role in education, but not as a subsitute for a good teacher. Cliff Stoll's book Silicon Snake Oil opinions that we have too much hype about technology and not enough thought. I often help out my wife, a K12 teacher, with technology issues. The result has been a yearbook and school news paper - her ideas. On the issue of technology purchases, I would give the school board a "D". The grading system is three years old and is a wing & prayer adventure each marking period for the last three years. The website service is rudimentary at best. The teachers fight an uphill battle every time a new technology is adopted. It is little wonder that they are not advocates of technology.
Having taught technology as an adjunct professor at a local university for 26 years and worked with technology even longer, I wonder why we can't put technology to better use as a support tool for educators without making it one more headache for them.
